Emerson Elementary School is the second school in the Berkeley Unified School District for which Interactive Resources, Inc. was retained as the architect and structural engineer of record for a design-bid-build, roof-mounted solar PV project. Interactive Resources, Inc. had earlier in 2010 through a contract with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) performed a preliminary evaluation of the framing for this and other sites in the Berkeley Unified School District to determine the viability of solar.

Interactive Resources, Inc. prepared structural calculations to verify that the existing structures’ framing could support the array, and also structural drawings showing the location and details for the anchorage of the array and inverter anchorage. We also provided construction administration services. We prepared construction documents for submittal to the Division of the State Architect (DSA), and responded to DSA comments.
