Project Assistant  

Position Summary

Interactive Resources seeks a Project Assistant to join our team. Since 1973, our firm has provided exceptional architectural design, structural engineering and planning services, with a focus on green building principles and strategies. “Interactive Resources” refers to the collaborative and effective business environment our firm cultivates to support a highly productive and creative team.

The Project Assistant is responsible for assisting with administrative matters including support of project-related materials and communications. Full-time benefits include, health, dental, life, and 401k. This is an in-person position in our Point Richmond office. We are strategically located to serve the major business hubs of Northern California, while conveniently situated for easy daily commutes to Berkeley, Oakland, San Francisco, Marin and surrounding communities. Known as the “Hidden City,” Point Richmond is a historic neighborhood with many shops and restaurants, the Plunge Natatorium, Miller Knox Regional Park, Keller Beach, and is a sailing and recreational destination.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist with organizing files, drawings, specifications, contracts, etc.
  • Assist with project proposals and reports, including formatting content, compiling components, fee proposal review, and printing final digital and hard copies
  • Prepare basic level of documents, spreadsheets, letters, transmittals etc. in accordance with company and/or client standards
  • Assist with processing and formatting full length specifications in CSI format
  • Assist Project Managers with construction administration
  • Assist Project Managers with project accounting
  • Prepare AIA subconsultant agreements and amendments
  • Coordinate certificates of insurance with insurance broker for new projects
  • Assist with Division of the State Architect submissions
  • Assist with project security clearance requirements
  • Schedule meetings, conference calls, and appointments when applicable
  • Provide front office/reception back-up support when needed
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • High School diploma required. Associate degree preferred
  • 2+ years of progressive experience in a similar role, preferably within the Architecture and Engineering industry. Prior project/administrative assistant experience or similar experience
  • Intermediate level of proficiency in Microsoft tools such as Outlook, Excel and Word, particularly for formatting of reports and manuals in Word. Experience with Adobe Acrobat
  • Knowledge of Deltek Ajera project and accounting management platform is a plus
  • Knowledge of Deltek MasterSpec is a plus
  • Ability to uphold the highest standards of confidentiality and discretion
  • Ability to work independently and as a valuable member of a team

Preservation Architect  

Interactive Resources seeks a Preservation Architect, or a candidate with relevant experience on a licensing track, to join our team. Since 1973, our firm has provided exceptional architectural design, structural engineering and planning services, with a focus on green building principles and strategies. “Interactive resources” refers to the collaborative and effective business environment our firm cultivates to support a highly productive and creative team.

Interactive Resources also has a long and successful practice of historical preservation, including rehabilitation, restoration, and reconstruction services. We have designed and overseen the construction of hundreds of historical projects completed in compliance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and employing the California Historical Building Code.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • A Degree in Architecture from a program accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board OR a Bachelor of Arts with a major in architecture plus two years working in an architecture firm specializing in preservation.
  • AIA or comparable license or certification, or currently on a licensing track.
  • Knowledge of fundamental principles of historic preservation and architectural conservation and ability to apply them to project work.
  • Skilled at applying the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.
  • Experience in project management from conception to completion (definition of project, development of tasks to accomplish the project, coordination and monitoring of work, delivering project on time and within budget).
  • Experience developing proposals, project budgets.
  • Knowledge of client and consultant contracting and negotiation techniques, contract conditions and contract review processes.

Structural Engineer  

Interactive Resources, Inc. seeks a Structural Engineer with a minimum of five years of relevant experience, including experience with lateral/seismic design. This position will contribute to the engineering of building design and construction administration, and will assist in the analysis, documentation and design of buildings creating structural calculations, plans and specifications. A wide degree of creativity, initiative and latitude is expected.

B.S. degree in Civil/Structural Engineering is required; M.S. desirable. PE license in the state of California required; SE license desirable. Applicants should have an excellent working knowledge of building codes (CBC, IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI) and construction practices, as well as demonstrable technical expertise in building design (steel, concrete, masonry). Applicants should have good skills with structural design software, including Revit Structural, RISA3D, and Enercalc. Experience with RISAFloorES, and RISAFoundation is a plus. Out of State applications who can obtain a California PE license through reciprocity are welcome to apply.

Applicants must have good written and oral communication skills and understand how to develop and maintain good working relationships with clients. An ability to cultivate new connections and network within the trade to bring new clients is expected. Candidates must be able to work independently with minimal supervision, manage projects effectively, and also work closely with design team to produce high quality structural drawings.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis, design, and documentation of structural systems including: structural layouts, element and component design and specifications
  • Develop solutions to challenging building structural issues integrated with architecture, other engineering disciplines for the use of construction and manufacturing teams
  • Contribute to ensure designs are compliant with the company’s principles of design for manufacturing, assembly, and systems integration
  • Perform site inspections
  • Assist in the preparation of reports, technical memorandums, recommendations, and cost estimates

Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of experience as a structural engineer working towards or recently achieving a SE license
  • Knowledge of type 1 to 5 construction systems
  • Knowledge of building code concepts and specifications
  • Willingness to learn
  • Resourceful and team-oriented problem solving skills
  • Forward thinking with strong interpersonal skills
  • Display a passion for innovation
  • A willingness to travel (locally and or out of state, as needed) for meetings, to perform field work, and support clients. International candidates must provide proof of ability to work in the U.S.
